Turn into detail, Vietnamese Northern regions bear a huge promise of sustainable tourism, as many of them have been being on the way to contribute to the development of responsible tourism with a lot of projects carried out by different organizations, NGOs, and the Government. Within the context of sustainable tourism concern in the Northern region of Vietnam, Cao Bang is now being a target of being built as one of the samples for developing tourism in parallel with protecting the environment, and simultaneously improving local economy.

In the last days of June 2016, Recreation Trail Solutions (RTS) collaborating with Vietnam Homestay had arranged a field trip up to this destination to check out potential cycling routes for a Community-Based Tourism development project. RTS is an organization currently providing recreational trail design and trail building services to Vietnam-based NGOs and social enterprises. The field survey aims to investigate the landscape, terrain, infrastructure conditions for developing activities like biking, trekking, and hiking. Be bestowed with stunning natural beauty, wonderful landscapes, at the same time still in spontaneous stage of development, Cao Bang is an ideal place for adventurous tourism. The field trip up to this land of RTS and Vietnam Homestay also targeted to find solution for economy enhancement at the spot via seeking for local residents’ engagement in tourism. Vietnam Homestay, with their essential core vision and mission, was up to Cao Bang with the objective in which villagers in the area are looking to set up homestays in their family houses. Homestay is one tourism model that involves travelers in the local lives when they stay in local houses. Besides cycling, this is just one of the activities that lure tourists to this destination. In Cao Bang, there have long lasted a lot of traditional handicraft villages with different jobs namely yin yang roof tile, blacksmith, incense making… Travelers coming to Cao Bang will not only can take part in incredible adventurous activities here, but also have chance to experience the truly local livings with locals by involving in activities of doing traditional jobs of crafts, field works,…

Being heavily populated with mountains, rough roads, and local villages, Cao Bang would be one of the most significant places for tourists to experience authentic tourism when travelling to Vietnam. Once was only known as the border spot to China at the North end of Vietnam, with the most famous attraction is Ban Gioc Waterfall, Cao Bang is so close to be marked as desirable spot for cycling and homestay experiences.
